About Us

Located in Montrose, IA, Taboo Customs is a veteran-owned business dedicated to designing and building heavy duty off-road products.

To understand Taboo Customs you might need to understand my background. For the last 25 years I have been OBSESSED with Jeeps. I started with a 1977 Jeep CJ 5 when I was in high school and since then have built/owned a countless number of jeeps from Willys to Grand Cherokees. After high school my love of mechanics sent me to Bradley University to obtain an engineering degree while at the same time joining the Army Reserves as a Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic. Right after college I was called up as part of the response to the 9-11 tragedy.

Shortly after returning from deployment I started working in the OEM auto industry and returned to building jeeps. Around that time I started a business called After Hours Offroad, selling parts and accessories in my spare time. After several years in the OEM auto world I moved to a large aftermarket truck body manufacturer. To go along with that move I also decided that I would rather be designing and building products than selling other companies products.

So in 2007 I started Taboo Customs working out of a two car garage designing and building bumpers and tire carriers.

In 2014 we moved to Lima and a dedicated shop to build our products.

In 2020 we started making Taboo Customs Jeep repair and product installation videos on YouTube and Rumble.

In 2021 we moved to a large facility in Montrose, IA with 10k square feet of manufacturing space and over 8k square feet of warehouse space. Since moving we have expanded our equipment adding new press brakes and robotic welding systems.
